The admission to a German chamber of architects is required to be allowed to practise the professions of architect, interior designer, landscape architect and town planner in Germany.

In accordance with the article 9 of the law of the Land of Thuringia, dated June 13th 1997, regulating the profession of architect, the amount of 150.00 Euro will be collected to cover the inscription fees into the list of foreign architects of the Thuringian Chamber of Architects. The removal of the list involves no additional expenditure.

Requirements to be registered in the list of foreign architects

In accordance with §9 of the law of the Land of Thuringia regulating the profession of architects of June 13th 1997.

(1) An individual who do not have his main domicile nor a office nor a main professional occupation in Thuringia (foreign architects), is allowed, in accordance with §1, to make use of either his title or a word connected with it, a similar or additive designation as he practises as an architect in Thuringia, if evidence can be produced that:

  1. he is also entitled to practice as an architect in accordance with the laws of the German Land or of the foreign country in which his main domicile, his office or his main professional occupation is located, or
  2. he fulfils the requirements of §6, and that it does not exist any similar legal provision in the German Land or in the foreign country in which his main domicile, his office or his main professional occupation is located, and that it cannot be referred to any of the suspension or disqualification cases of §7.

(2) Foreign architects who are not registered as an architect in a Chamber of Architecture included in the area of application of the Law are however considered as the members of the Chamber of Architecture with regard to the vigilation and the fulfilment of the requirements and behaviour of the profession. They must satisfy that:

  1. they are allowed to practise as architects in the Land in which their head office or professional occupation is located and
  2. they hold, in accordance with §6, a degree, diploma or other academic qualification granted by a university or college, or any other official and acknowledged certificate of satisfactory training in architecture in accordance with §6.1 Nr 2.

(3) If the person who does not have the German citizenship in accordance with the article 116 of the Constitution, the registering commission can prohibit him from practising as an architect if the reciprocity cannot be guaranteed ; citizens of the European Union member States as well as people classed as citizens of the European Union in accordance with the Right of the European Community are not concerned.

(4) Foreign architects are registered into a separate list.

(5) A foreign architect who desires to engage in architectural practice in the Land of Thuringia for the very first time shall first inform the Chamber of Architects of Thuringia.

(6) Should doubts be cast on the legitimacy of the practice of the profession, in accordance with the paragraphs 1 to 3, the registering commission can decide at the request of the person concerned or of the Chamber of Architects if the §8 can be in force.
