They are also skilled in the fields of town refurbishment and remodelling as well as of revitalization of villages.

The main characteristics of the town planner is his ability to work out in both a complex and a general way the planning and the conception of urban spaces meeting the needs. Moreover social, economic, historic, cultural, technical, legal aspects, as well as landscape preservation and prevention of harmful effects on the environment are to be taken into account. In the framework of regional planning, town planners are the partners of municipalities to draw up local statutes and right-safe plans which take into account the requirements of the building sector. The town planner being independent of builders, project developers and building firms, they can adequately act in his client's own best interest, usually a municipal entity.

The Chamber of architects makes sure that town planning tasks are entrusted to town planners registered in the official list of town planners.
